I designed this logo for Shika to Kakato, a foot care salon in Ikoma, Nara, Japan.
Inspired by the client's request, I combined two distinctive motifs: a deer, symbolising Nara's local identity, and kumadori, the traditional facial make-up used in Japanese Kabuki theatre.
I incorporated the deer's striking antlers into the composition, using flowing curves inspired by kumadori to shape the face. The bold black forms, accented with vermilion red, express the strength, elegance and dynamic energy of traditional Japanese culture.
I carefully refined the line weights, negative space and overall proportions to bring these different elements together into a cohesive and recognisable symbol.
My aim was to create a distinctive, versatile logo that would remain memorable across shop signage, traditional Japanese lanterns, printed materials and other brand applications.
