A brand logo created for Kome no Nakaya, a Japanese rice farming brand.
Drawing inspiration from traditional Japanese family crests (kamon), the design combines two meaningful motifs: ears of rice, representing the brand's identity, and the Shichiyōmon (Seven Stars Crest), the family's traditional crest. Together, these elements symbolise a heritage passed down through generations and a deep commitment to producing high-quality rice.
The symbol brings the rice ears and the Seven Stars Crest together within a circular composition, creating a sense of stability, unity and balance reminiscent of traditional Japanese family crests. The flowing curves of the rice ears evoke the vitality of nature and the richness of a bountiful harvest.
In combining these two distinct motifs, particular attention was given to preserving their individual characteristics while achieving harmony within the overall design. Line weights, negative space and the placement of each element were carefully refined to create a simple yet sophisticated symbol that retains the dignity of a traditional crest while remaining versatile for contemporary branding.
The logo was also designed with a wide range of applications in mind, including rice bags, packaging, signage, printed materials and websites. Its balanced composition ensures clarity and visual impact even when reproduced in a single colour.
By bringing together the heritage of Japanese family crests and the dedication behind rice cultivation, the final design expresses Kome no Nakaya's unique history and identity. The result is a timeless brand symbol, created to remain meaningful and recognisable for generations to come.
