A logo design created for Tōyō, an ikebana artist whose work extends across Japan and internationally.
Inspired by the peach blossom from the artist’s name, the symbol combines the timeless aesthetics of traditional Japanese family crests (kamon) with the delicacy, elegance and quiet dignity of ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement.
The design abstracts the petals and stamens of a peach blossom into a refined circular composition reminiscent of a traditional Japanese crest. While drawing on the structured beauty of kamon, careful attention was given to line weights, negative space and the balance of individual elements, ensuring that the symbol remains simple and visually harmonious.
To reflect the tranquillity and sophistication of ikebana, the design adopts a minimal approach, avoiding unnecessary ornamentation. Legibility from a distance and clarity at smaller sizes were also carefully considered.
The logo was designed to complement traditional Japanese settings and a variety of applications, including noren curtains, lanterns and printed materials, while maintaining a consistent brand identity both in Japan and internationally.
By bringing together the softness of peach blossoms and the refined structure of Japanese family crests, the final symbol expresses Tōyō’s distinctive artistic identity, balancing traditional Japanese beauty with contemporary elegance.
