A logo design and brand identity created for Kizaemon, a Japanese rice farming brand.
The design aims to express the farm’s distinctive identity and future direction while honouring the family history and traditions passed down through generations.
The symbol draws inspiration from the circular form and symmetrical beauty of the traditional Japanese family crest known as Maru ni Daki Omodaka. At its centre, a ripe ear of rice is framed by two swallows, creating a warm and approachable composition that reflects the dedication to rice cultivation and evokes the peaceful beauty of Japan’s rural landscapes.
While preserving the individual characteristics of each motif, careful attention was given to their shapes, negative space and overall proportions to maintain the refined appearance of a traditional Japanese crest. By bringing these elements together into a single cohesive symbol, the design achieves a balance of strength and simplicity.
Versatility was also an important consideration, ensuring that the logo works naturally across a variety of applications, including rice bags, gift packaging and printed materials. The design retains the dignity of a traditional family crest while introducing a sense of warmth and approachability suited to a contemporary agricultural brand.
By uniting a family symbol passed down through generations with the passion and dedication behind rice cultivation, the final design creates a timeless brand identity that reflects Kizaemon’s unique heritage and character.
