A logo design created for Bifudo, a kimono rental and photography studio based in Nara, Japan.
The design draws inspiration from three traditional Japanese motifs often found in kimono patterns: pine branches, folding fans and plum blossoms. These elements are brought together within a single family crest-inspired symbol (kamon), expressing the elegance, beauty and cultural heritage of traditional Japanese attire.
The pine represents longevity and enduring beauty, while the folding fan evokes grace and celebration. Plum blossoms add a sense of delicacy and seasonal beauty, creating a harmonious composition that reflects the refined yet welcoming character of the brand.
Rather than simply arranging these motifs together, careful attention was given to their individual forms, proportions and negative space. The elements were integrated into a balanced circular composition, preserving the dignity of traditional Japanese crests while introducing a contemporary sense of simplicity and refinement.
The logo was also designed with versatility in mind, ensuring that it remains recognisable and visually appealing across various applications, including traditional Japanese lanterns, signage, printed materials and social media.
By combining the timeless beauty of Japanese decorative motifs with a modern, approachable aesthetic, the final design creates a distinctive brand symbol that reflects Bifudo's connection to kimono culture and traditional Japanese elegance.
