DESIGN STORY
I created this brand identity for ikebana artist Momohazama.
As the artist also works internationally, I reinterpreted the visual language of traditional Japanese family crests in a more contemporary way, allowing the identity to feel distinctly Japanese while remaining accessible to an international audience.
The central motif is the peach blossom, inspired by the artist’s name. I simplified the petals and stamens into an abstract form and arranged them within a circular composition, retaining the dignity and balance associated with traditional crests while also expressing the delicacy and refined beauty of ikebana.
The relationship between line and negative space was carefully adjusted so the symbol remains recognisable from a distance and functions beautifully even at smaller sizes.
It was also designed to sit naturally within Japanese-style environments and applications such as noren curtains, lanterns and printed materials, while consistently expressing the artist’s visual world.
