DESIGN STORY

I created this logo for Kokon Bibi, a kimono rental shop in Kyoto.

The client requested a design that felt refined and stylish while still retaining a sense of softness and approachability. With this in mind, I aimed to balance traditional Japanese beauty with a more contemporary brand expression.

The main motif is inspired by traditional court headwear, combined with the silhouette of a woman in kimono. By expressing the obi knot in a ribbon-like form, I introduced a sense of delicacy, movement and elegance.

The overall composition is contained within a circular form to create stability and dignity, while remaining recognisable even at smaller sizes. The identity was designed to work consistently across applications such as noren curtains, shop signage, packaging and printed materials.

By reinterpreting traditional motifs through a modern visual language, the final symbol conveys both Kyoto-style refinement and a warm, approachable character.
