DESIGN STORY
This self-initiated concept project explores how traditional Japanese culture can be reinterpreted into a visual language that feels natural within contemporary branding and packaging.
The central motif combines a woman in kimono with bonsai, one of Japan’s most recognisable cultural forms. By placing a small bonsai delicately on the palm of her hand, I created a quiet connection between the human figure and nature.
The flowing sleeves and hem of the kimono introduce gentle movement, while the overall composition remains calm and restrained. Although illustrative in nature, the design avoids excessive decoration so that it can also function as a simple visual asset across logos, labels and packaging.
Rather than reproducing traditional motifs literally, I aimed to create a contemporary expression that retains a distinctly Japanese sensibility while remaining versatile enough for modern lifestyles and international markets.
